What the Spinner Chimney Cowl does

The Spinner Chimney Cowl is designed for British weather and suits 8 inch chimney pots. It is an anti downdraught cowl that helps solve wind-related downdraught without restricting chimney performance.

It suits oil, gas, and solid fuel systems, except anthracite. It also helps protect the chimney from moisture ingress and nesting birds.

If your main problem is severe driving rain, a Static Anti Downdraught Chimney Cowl gives stronger rain protection.

Technical information

The revolving mechanism uses a sealed double bearing unit for long service life. The high temperature grease is rated to 200 degrees C.

The cowl uses 316 stainless steel with a cast aluminium finish. It is manufactured to EN16475-7:2016 and EN1856-1:2009 and is CE marked.

BSRIA in the UK has independently tested and certified this chimney cowl. It also includes a 1 year guarantee against defects in workmanship and materials.

When not to use a Spinner Chimney Cowl

Do not use this cowl with anthracite or fuels high in sulphuric acid. Do not use it with fuels that have a moisture content above 20%.

Do not use it on a chimney shorter than 18 feet. If your chimney is shorter, choose a H Chimney Cowl instead.

This cowl will not solve downdraught if the chimney sits more than 4 feet below the roof apex. It also will not solve problems caused by nearby taller buildings, hedges, or trees.

It will not fix a draft problem when there is no wind. In calm weather, that usually means lack of draught and may require an electric chimney fan cowl.

What comes in the pack

The pack includes one Spinner Chimney Cowl, one strap, and one fixing screw and bolt.

You also receive three stainless steel legs, three steel claws, and three wing nuts. The standard legs measure 105mm and suit a standard chimney pot.

If you have a decorative chimney pot, you may need optional longer legs that measure 235mm.

Fitting and compatibility

The Spinner Chimney Cowl fits most standard chimney pots. Its aluminium base diameter is 8 inches or 200mm.

To fit a 6 inch chimney pot or prefabricated flue, you must buy a 6 inch Spinner Adapter. Fitting is simple and only requires a screwdriver.

The three claws grip the inside of the chimney pot or adapter. The three strapping legs sit outside the pot or adapter.

The claws and legs are secured with three wing nuts and a tight fitting strapping band. Fitting instructions are supplied with each product.
