What the Chimney Bird Guard does

The SHL Chimney Bird Guard is designed for the British market and weather. It uses a cage type stainless steel mesh housing to help stop birds nesting in the chimney.

It also helps protect the chimney from rain and moisture penetration. This makes it suitable for chimneys in use, chimneys used infrequently, and chimneys not used at all.

The cowl gives strong protection without restricting normal chimney performance.

Technical information

The Chimney Bird Guard uses stainless steel construction with a 0.7mm wall thickness. It suits solid fuel systems and includes 1 inch by 1 inch stainless steel mesh.

The circular hat diameter is 320mm. It is manufactured to EN 16475-7:2016 and EN 1856-1:2009 and is CE marked.

The product includes a 1 year warranty against faulty materials and workmanship.

What the Chimney Bird Guard will not do

This chimney bird guard will not prevent downdraught in your chimney. If you need that, choose a H Chimney Cowl, Spinner Chimney Cowl, or Static Anti Downdraught Cowl.

It will not create an updraught or increase chimney performance. It also will not completely stop severe driving rain or horizontal rain in exposed locations.

If you need stronger rain protection in coastal or elevated areas, a H Chimney Cowl is the better option.

What comes in the pack

The pack includes one Chimney Bird Guard in plain stainless steel, black, or terracotta. Painted versions cost no extra.

You also receive one strap, one fixing screw and bolt, and one pack with three sets of legs and wing nuts.

Fitting and sizes

Fitting is simple and only requires a screwdriver. The SHL Chimney Bird Guard is available in 5 inch, 6 inch, 8 to 9 inch, 10½ inch, 12 inch, and 14 inch sizes.
